A native New Yorker and an 80’s baby. Niq’s family moved from Brownsville, Brooklyn to Central Harlem in the early 90's, and it was at the Schomburg library, reading poetry by Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou, that she began to understand the power that came with telling our own stories, unapologetically, as Black people.
Niq has edited documentary, scripted and branded content for companies like Vanity Fair, GQ, Showtime, Nike, Vice Media Group and Conde Naste. She has also lead edited two groundbreaking documentary feature films - In Our Mothers’ Gardens, which was acquired by Array films and is currently streaming on Netflix, and Gemmel and Tim, a crime doc that is currently streaming on Apple TV, iTunes, and Prime. Her work has been featured in Variety, Ad-Age, Rolling Stones, Vogue, Hollywood Reporter and The New York Times. In 2022 she was invited to participate in the Feature Documentary Jury selection committee for Newest Film Festival. Her more recent visual works are grounded in and celebrate the nuances of Black culture. harlemsdaughter@gmail.com
